Tiffany Spradley's Charleston Red Rice

Ingredients

  • 1 1⁄2 cups long grain rice
  • 12 oz. Butterball Hardwood Smoked Turkey Sausage, diced
  • 1⁄2 cup diced yellow onion
  • 1⁄2 cup diced bell pepper
  • 3 oz. tomato paste
  • 1 1⁄2 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1⁄2 tsp salt
  • 1⁄2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 1⁄4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 1⁄2 tbsp hot sauce
  • 1⁄4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1⁄2 tsp of onion powder

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350° (175°C). Rinse rice and set aside.
  2. In a cast iron skillet, saute diced Butterball Hardwood Smoked Turkey Sausage, onion, and bell pepper in olive oil for five minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add tomato paste, sugar, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder, then stir until coated evenly in the tomato paste and spices. 
  4. Add uncooked rinsed rice and stir until combined and bring to a boil.
  5. Remove from heat, cover tightly with aluminum foil and baked at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven, let sit for 10 minutes before uncovering, fluffing with a fork and serving.
